The Origins of the French Toast

Although the title of the dish seems to clearly state where it comes from, as food explorers, we must not blindly believe in that. Or shall we?

Certainly, not. We, at foodies.pk, believe in going to depths and double-checking the authenticity of our pool of food-knowledge. So, upon researching, we came to know that French Toast does not belong to France originally. The first-ever bread, similar to French Toast, got prepared in the Roman Empire. And several countries at that time were using more or less similar recipes to convert stale bread into edible. Thus, in French, it is more accurately known as Pain Perdu, which means lost bread.

Even before that, a reference to French Toast should also get noticed in the Latin compilation of recipes. Over here, a French toast resembling recipe gets referred to as Aliter Dulcia, which means another sweet dish.
