New York Home of Late Vogue Editor Andre Leon Talley Lists for $1.25 Million Apkmusk

In an effort to escape “The Chiffon Trenches,” the late Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley retreated to a historic estate in White Plains, New York—which came to the market Wednesday for $1.25 million.

Built in 1854, the 3,600-square-foot center hall Colonial boasts a semi-circular entrance flanked by columns with a red door and a dormer on the second level, according to the listing with Bonnie Stein of Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty.

The home “boasts original leaded windows and wide plank flooring in a few of the bedrooms,” Stein said. There are also beamed ceilings and Dutch doors that date to the 19th century.

But Talley’s touch is not to be underestimated. Although the home was emptied after his death at age 73 last January, it still boasts touches like a leopard-print stair runner and carpets, listing photos show. 

“What truly sets it apart is the fact that Andre Leon Talley himself fell in love with the home and the estate-like property,” Stein said. “It’s a special place that deserves recognition and appreciation.”

Talley, whose memoir “The Chiffon Trenches” was released in 2020, became the first Black creative director of Vogue when he accepted the job from Anna Wintour in 1988. He was a fixture on the fashion scene, and made guest appearances on television shows such as “America’s Top Model,” “Sex and the City” and “Empire,” according to his obituary in The Wall Street Journal.

The four-bedroom and two-and-a-half bathroom home also has formal living and dining rooms, both with fireplaces and large windows; a wood-and-brick kitchen with two ovens and a windowed breakfast room leading to a deck; and an office or den. 

Upstairs, the primary bedroom suite offers a sitting area, fireplace, another office with two arched windows framing views of the trees and, of course, a walk-in closet, according to the floor plan. There are three other bedrooms and a bathroom. 

The home is surrounded by manicured lawns and mature trees.
